Charles River Selected to Host Association of Clinical Pharmacology Units' Annual Conference

Marks Historic First in Conference History for an Independent Clinical Pharmacology Unit to Host the Meeting

WILMINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Association of Clinical Pharmacology Units (ACPU), for the first time in its history, selected an independent CPU as the host for its 2008 Annual Meeting. Charles River Laboratories International, Inc.'s (NYSE:CRL) Tacoma, Washington clinical services facility is hosting the event, themed "Taking Aim at Moving Targets of Phase I," which will focus on evolving industry dynamics. Conference attendees will identify practical strategies for overcoming Phase I study challenges that can be adopted within their organizations.

The three-day conference will explore issues including regulatory requirements, disaster recovery, safety and adverse events as well as best practices. Speakers include regulatory agency experts as well as executives from Abbott Laboratories, Amgen Inc., Lilly Center for Medical Sciences and Charles River. The conference is scheduled for October 20 - 22, 2008 and will take place at the Hotel Murano in Tacoma, Washington. Facilitate the formation of scientific, technical and methodological foundations for the state-of- the-art drug evaluations. Promote the establishment of voluntary minimum standards of practice and guidelines for clinical pharmacology units. Foster the continuing education of its membership through the provision of appropriate educational opportunities.
