Charles River Laboratories Announces Departure of Dennis Shaughnessy, General Counsel
Jody Acford to Join Charles River as Corporate Senior Vice
President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
WILMINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 2004-- Charles River Laboratories International, Inc. (NYSE:CRL) announced today that Dennis Shaughnessy, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, General Counsel and Secretary is leaving the Company effective December 31, 2004. Mr. Shaughnessy is joining the faculty of Northeastern University's College of Business Administration, where he will teach technology management, new ventures, strategic entrepreneurship, and intellectual property. He will continue to work with Charles River on a consulting basis, focusing on the development of in vitro drug discovery technologies and business models.

Assuming the responsibilities of Corporate Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Charles River Laboratories will be Jody Acford. Ms. Acford joins Charles River from John Hancock Financial Services where she served as Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel. In this position, Ms. Acford was responsible for the legal activities relating to mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures as well as investment initiatives and development of new products and markets.
At Charles River, Ms. Acford's key responsibilities will include providing advice to the Company with respect to legal activities involving acquisitions, joint ventures, governance, property and general corporate and commercial matters.
